Month: October 2025
Short answer: GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimisation. It’s the practical craft of making your content discoverable in AI-driven results (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) and Google’s AI Overviews—alongside traditional SEO. CocoonFX offers GEO as part of our SEO programmes.
Why GEO matters now
AI assistants and AI Overviews increasingly answer queries without a classic “10 blue links” page. Your goal isn’t just to rank; it’s to be referenced and summarised accurately by AI systems—and clicked.
A few hard facts set the scene:
- Google still dominates search with ~90% global share (Sept 2025), so SEO remains essential. StatCounter Global Stats
- Consumers lean on Google for local decisions; 83% use it to find local business reviews (2025). BrightLocal
- AI assistants now shape discovery paths and referral traffic—driving the rise of GEO as a discipline. TechRadar
“Local results are mainly based on relevance, distance, and prominence.” — Google Business Profile Help.
That foundation still applies. GEO builds on it to ensure AI systems can understand, trust, and surface your content.
GEO vs SEO: how they work together
Think of SEO as the engine and GEO as the translator for AI answers.
- SEO: site speed, crawlability, internal linking, keyword targeting, topical depth, E-E-A-T, reviews, local signals.
- GEO: structure and wording so AI models can parse and quote you correctly—clean entities, concise “answer blocks”, schema, citations, and source clarity.
Put simply: SEO earns visibility; GEO earns inclusion in AI answers. Neither replaces the other.
What good GEO looks like (the practical bits)
1) Structure content for answers
Create clear, quotable sections: 40–80 word answer blocks, plain-English headings, and canonically consistent terms (your brand, products, locations). Use FAQs to match real questions.
2) Strengthen entities and context
Name things consistently: company, people, services, locations. Add supporting signals—About page details, contact info, and organisation schema—to help AI systems resolve who you are.
3) Mark up the right things
Use JSON-LD for Article, FAQPage, Organization, LocalBusiness, and product/service snippets. This helps both search and AI Overviews understand what your page is and why it’s relevant.
4) Publish evidence, not claims
Back statements with numbers, methods, and sources. AI systems prefer verifiable, attribution-ready content; reviewers do too (and they drive trust).
5) Keep classic SEO sharp
Google still sends most traffic. Maintain technical hygiene, content depth, and local signals. Prominence (links, mentions, reviews) still pushes you up.
“Google’s share remains high; plan for AI experiences and classic results.” — Market-share summaries (2024–2025).

If you want the full picture (SEO + GEO + paid), we also manage SEO programmes, web design, PPC and publish guidance on AI Overviews and SEO fundamentals.
A simple GEO checklist you can start today
- Define 10–20 answer-first FAQs and add them to relevant pages.
- Standardise your business entity details across site and profiles.
- Add/validate schema on key pages.
- Consolidate thin pages; strengthen one canonical source per topic.
- Encourage recent, specific reviews and reference them where appropriate.
Generative Engine Optimisation—making your content clear, citable, and trusted by AI systems and AI Overviews, not just search engines.
Yes. GEO complements SEO. SEO earns rankings; GEO improves your inclusion and accuracy in AI answers.
Yes. AI experiences can summarise results above traditional listings. GEO helps you appear in those summaries while you maintain rankings.
Absolutely. Local intent plus reviews and prominence still influence visibility; GEO improves how AI explains and references your business.
es—audits, schema, content rewrites, FAQs, review workflows, and tracking are standard in our programmes: SEO at CocoonFX and Contact us.

The Speed of Website Creation: What You Need to Know
Building a website can feel like a daunting task, right? You might be wondering just how quick it can actually be done. The answer isn’t as straightforward as you might think, but let’s break it down.
How Fast Can a Website Be Built?
The speed of website development depends on a variety of factors, and every project is unique. A simple, informational site can often be whipped up in a matter of days. However, if you’re aiming for something more complex—like an e-commerce platform or a custom web application—it might take weeks or even months.
So, what are those factors that play a role in the timeline? Here’s the scoop:
1. Type of Website: A basic blog or portfolio site can be built relatively quickly, perhaps in one to two weeks. But if you’re thinking about an online shop with tons of products, that’ll take longer. Think weeks to months, depending on the features you want to include.
2. Content Requirements: If you already have your images, text, and branding ready to go, congratulations! You’re ahead of the game. But if you’re starting from scratch, gathering and creating content can add significant time to your project.
3. Design Complexity: The more intricate your design, the longer it’ll take. Custom designs require more effort than using templates. It’s like cooking; if you’re making a simple pasta dish, it’s quick. But if you’re whipping up a multi-course meal, you’ll need more time in the kitchen.
4. Functionality and Features: Do you want forms, interactive features, or integrations with other services? More complexity equals more time. Simple sites with static pages will be quicker than those with dynamic elements like shopping carts or membership areas.
5. Developer Expertise: The experience level of the developer or team can also impact speed. A seasoned pro might be able to navigate challenges more efficiently than someone just starting out.
Key Questions We Get
You’re not alone in your curiosity! Here are some of the key questions we frequently hear from clients:
- Can I get a website done in a week? Maybe! If it’s a straightforward site, it’s possible. But if you want more features or a unique design, it’s best to plan for a longer timeline.
- What if I don’t have all my content ready? That’s okay! Many clients don’t have everything prepared when they start. Just be aware that finalising your site could take longer if you’re still gathering materials.
- Can I make changes after it’s built? Absolutely! Websites are living entities. You can (and should) make updates and changes as needed. Just remember that significant changes might require additional time and resources.

How Much Does a Website Cost to Build?
Building a website is a crucial step for any business looking to establish an online presence. But how much should you expect to spend? The answer isn’t straightforward, as costs can vary widely based on several factors. Let’s break it down!
Understanding the Basics of Website Costs
When considering the cost of a website, it’s essential to look at the different components involved. Generally, you’ll encounter three main areas: design, hosting, and ongoing support.
-Design Costs: A basic website can start from around £1,500. If you’re looking for something more tailored and intricate, expect to pay upwards of £3,500. E-commerce sites, which require additional features like payment gateways, typically start at £6,000.
– Hosting Fees: Once your site is live, you’ll need to consider hosting. A standard hosting plan might cost around £85 per month, which includes support and maintenance.
– Ongoing Support: Depending on your needs, you might want to invest in ongoing support to keep your site updated and secure. This can be a crucial aspect of maintaining your online presence.
For more details on web design, check out our [web design page](#).
What Influences Website Pricing?
Several factors can influence the overall cost of building a website. Here are some key considerations:
1. Complexity of Design
A simple, one-page site will naturally cost less than a complex, multi-page site with custom features. The more intricate your design and functionality, the higher the price tag.
2. Type of Website
Are you building a personal blog, a corporate site, or an e-commerce platform? Each type has its own requirements and complexities, which can significantly affect costs. E-commerce sites, for example, require secure payment processing and inventory management, adding to the overall expense.
3. Custom Features
If you need specific functionalities—like booking systems, membership areas, or interactive elements—these will require additional development time and expertise, thus increasing costs.
Hidden Costs to Consider
While you might have a budget in mind, there are often hidden costs that can sneak up on you. Here are a few to keep an eye on:
– **Domain Registration**: Don’t forget to budget for your domain name, which typically costs around £10-£20 per year.
– **SSL Certificates**: For e-commerce sites, an SSL certificate is essential for security and can cost anywhere from £50 to £200 annually.
– **Content Creation**: If you need help writing content, this can also add to your budget. Quality content is vital for SEO and user engagement.

Budgeting for Your Website
So, how do you budget effectively? A good rule of thumb is to allocate about 5-10% of your annual turnover to marketing, which includes your website. This might sound steep, but consider the potential return on investment. A well-designed website can significantly boost your business visibility and sales.
If you’re unsure where to start, our [marketing services page](#) offers tailored consultancy to help you strategise effectively.

Ai is a thing now, and I do have some quite strong views on it purpose and place. I thought I would share my thoughts, around the new technology and what to expect and also what is rubbish. Believe it or not back in the early 90s (showing my age) I thought the internet is pointless and never take off! I like to be proven wrong… and well my whole working life has been involved in technology, state or the art systems and also what we’ve built and developed in CocoonFX.
Ai to me has been around since Alan Turin invented the computer… an excel spreadsheet with marco is a form of AI. You then have OCR scanning, taking data from word or PDFs and putting it into a system. However AI is all of this on steroids, the speed you can get things done is ridiculous.
Everyday you see on the news, online and people saying oh AI can do that… Can it? Can AI do everything… I have been playing alot with Ai… and what I have learnt is below.
Can Ai produce an article?
Yes it can, but it will follow a format, it will be void of human emotions, it will not use facts, (ChatGTP 5 is meant to solve this), it will also make things up. I can spot AI content a mile off. Particularly blogs.. So can Google (there being less strict about it, come on to this in a bit).
Can Ai redesign & build my website?
My head in my hands… Yes it can provide a layout… is it unique no. Is it build using best practices.. no, is it optimised no. Is the code logical no. I have used Loveable.ai and some others to test them out. There good if you want something quick and simple. If they develop a bug… good luck fixing it, often the sites are built in framework unique to people who provide the site.
Can Ai build apps and code?
NOW, I thought this would be a slam dunk yes… Open source code is out there, coding is very structured. For the past 18 months I have been testing. 1 project I was looking at, 119 attempts to get it to work. That is the number of revisions. This week I built an Ai Agent – Chrysalis. I tightened up the brief and used prompts which I would give a Junior development. 28 versions later I revert back to version 18 which actually worked. https://www.cocoonfx.co.uk/ask-chrysalis/
Can Ai do research?
Absolutely NOT! regardless of the speed it can get data its not accurate and it gives up. I have a database of 64,000 vessels which I need to get 2 pieces of information, which are in the public domain, on multiple sources. I can buy in the data… don’t want to do that. I asked Ai ChatGTP, Gemini, CoPilot to try to the information. All 3 failed.
Can Ai automated things?
YES, it can do this and it is useful if you can spend the time working out a workflow.
So you probably wondering why I am writing this, if I am not a big fan. It’s simple any new technology takes time to get better, look at TV’s, Phones and everything. It will get much better.
The future with Ai and websites & Search
Website are going to evolve. A good friend of my CEO of a large international marketing agency, posted a very valid question. With the search engines going AI based, and they increased usage of using ChatGTP etc.. to find answer questions, do you need a website. With LLM (Large Language Model –AI trained on huge amounts of text to predict the next word, so it can write, summarise, translate, answer questions, extract data, and generate code in plain English), you don’t neccessarly need a website?
Me & Glen a few years back where thinking what’s next (how to save our jobs) and we thought Ai there is something we can leverage.
With my friend asking the above, I thought, hold on… If your website had pages, good quality content, and factual information, you can have an Ai Agent to be your concierge, where you ask the Ai Agent, a question about your service, your products and your thoughts on something.
You can close loop the query to enable the Ai Agent only to use your content. It then answers the question, gives you a summary and then links to the pages which match the question based on the treshold.
THEN i thought, with the right guardrails (rules) and prompts behind the scenes you can automatically generate user based content (blogs) which then will help improve the site content. This then ticks the box on Google Organic search results which will be around for many years to come and also Gemini and the other AI Searches. We now can generate content automatically, I have an apporval process (human eye) before I publish.
Ask Chrysalis
Ask a question about this website. We’ll enforce an 80% match; otherwise we show the nearest content plus contact.
So I have create “Ask Chrysalis” you can google this we will be at the top. If you click the button below you can ask it a question. The robot in the banner is AI generated as well. It does take about 10 seconds to get a response (I am working on making it faster).
My final thoughts are… don’t be afraid of change, embrace Ai but get yourselves ready for it. AI SEO is now a thing… its a slight different process to normal SEO, but we can help you get found in AI Search.
We will move our home page on our website to Ask Chrysalis and keep all the existing pages in the menu.

How Long Does It Take to Get Ranked on Google?
The SEO Journey: A Long-Term Commitment
When it comes to SEO, patience is key. Unlike paid media strategies, which can yield immediate results, organic search rankings typically take time to develop. Generally, you can expect to see noticeable changes within three to six months after implementing a solid SEO strategy. However, this timeline can vary based on several factors, including competition, website health, and the effectiveness of your chosen strategies.
Factors Influencing Your Ranking Timeline
Several elements can impact how quickly your site climbs the Google rankings. Here are the main ones to consider:
1. Competition in Your Niche
If you’re operating in a highly competitive market, it may take longer to establish your presence. For instance, if your competitors are already well-optimised, you’ll need to ramp up your efforts to catch up. This includes improving your content quality and acquiring high-quality backlinks to boost your authority.
2. Quality of Your Content
Content is king in the world of SEO. High-quality, relevant content that answers users’ queries can significantly speed up your ranking process. Google prioritises content that demonstrates expertise, authority, and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T). If you’re looking to improve your content strategy, consider exploring our [SEO services](#) for tailored solutions.
Understanding Google’s Algorithm
Google’s algorithm is constantly evolving, which can affect how quickly your site ranks. Regular updates mean that what worked yesterday might not be effective today. Staying informed about these changes is crucial. For more on this topic, check out [Google’s Search Central](https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6001108?hl=en) for insights into algorithm updates and best practices.
The Role of Paid Media in SEO
While SEO is a long-term strategy, integrating paid media, such as Google Ads, can provide immediate traffic boosts. By driving targeted visitors to your site, you can enhance your chances of ranking higher organically. This is particularly effective for businesses looking to establish a presence quickly. If you’re curious about how to optimise your paid campaigns, our [paid media breakdown](#) can guide you through the process.
Tracking Your Progress
Once your SEO campaign is underway, it’s essential to track your progress. Regular audits and analytics can help you understand what’s working and what needs improvement. Tools like Google Analytics can provide valuable insights into user behaviour and site performance. What is SEO?
Understanding Search Engine Optimisation
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is the art and science of enhancing your website’s visibility in search engine results. Imagine your website as a shop in a bustling city. If it’s tucked away in a back alley, few will find it. But with effective SEO, you can place your shop right on the main street, attracting foot traffic and potential customers.
The goal of SEO is to ensure that when someone searches for a product or service you offer, your website appears prominently in the search results. This targeted, non-intrusive approach to marketing is what makes SEO a powerful tool for businesses today.
The Power of SEO for Businesses
When executed correctly, SEO can significantly improve your website’s traffic and lead generation. By analysing your website’s data, you can gain valuable insights into visitor behaviour, allowing for strategic improvements that enhance user experience.
For instance, if you’re struggling to get found on Google or noticing a drop in leads, a tailored SEO service can help. By implementing proven strategies, you can rank higher on search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. This not only boosts your visibility but also attracts high-quality leads that are genuinely interested in what you offer.
Why Invest in SEO?
Investing in SEO is akin to planting seeds for future growth. While results may not be immediate, the long-term benefits are undeniable. With over 90% of online traffic coming from first-page search results, having a robust SEO strategy can be the difference between thriving and merely surviving in the digital landscape.
